Night Clubs

Ok, I'm currently scripting my third short. Now in an ideal world the opening scene would be shot in a nite club, but i'm pretty sure I wont get permission. I'm shooting on a Cannon XL1 so IF i got in, any lighting advice? Anyone ever do a shoot in a club?

two lights you need

firstly cannon do a Light that slots straight on top of the camera (runs from the battery of the camera so have spare batterys) about ?10 to hire and a PAG light about 15 quid to hire, get the battery belt and an assistant and youll be fine

I have shot in a night club. We did it without permission because too many people were farting around with us. I just decided to go for it. But all it involved was the main characters walking around.

First of all try and get permission. That way you can arrange with the manager to film during the day, when its not being used. Phone the manager and tell him/her that its good promo for the club.
Otherwise if the bouncers or any stray angry drunken bloke/woman see's you you could be in trouble.

We did it by hiding the camera in a bag, with full gain on. The results were crap. Get permission.

The best thing you can do is ASK the nightclub...

Tell them what you plan to do and mention you will give them a mention in the credits...

I have filmed in a nightclub (with NO previous warning), blagged it with some friends and then got into trouble when they phone the TV station I work for and ask when they will be on air... (I hadn't got permission for the use of the camera)
